(EPICSTORIAN) – A 14-year-old boy has been formally charged with the murder of 12-year-old Leo Ross and six counts of assault, West Midlands Police confirmed. The teenager, whose identity is protected due to his age, is also facing charges of possessing a bladed weapon and is set to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Leo Ross suffered fatal stab wounds to the stomach on Tuesday while walking along a riverside path in Birmingham’s Hall Green district. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the young boy succumbed to his injuries, leaving the local community in mourning.

Leo Ross’s Family

In a heartbreaking statement, Leo’s family described him as an “amazing, kind, and loving boy.” They expressed the profound grief his death has caused, saying, “Not only has Leo’s life been taken, but all of our lives have as well. Leo will be truly missed by all of us. He was loved so much by everyone.”

Officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the attack, with police urging any witnesses to come forward.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Leo’s school community, where teachers and students are struggling to come to terms with his untimely death. Diane Henson, the executive headteacher, described Leo as a lively and happy young man who was deeply cherished by his friends.
