Israeli airstrike on damascus 'kills leader of iranian revolutionary guard corps' mohammad reza zahedi

Israeli military airstrike on damascus has reportedly killed leader of iranian revolutionary guard corps’ mohammad reza zahedi.

According to Reuters, the IRGC “terrorists” commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi who oversaw Levant operations has been killed today in Syria by Israel.

However, the Syrian defence ministry said in a statement that some of the Israeli missiles were shot down by the Syrian air defense,  but other missiles successfully penetrated  through and “killing everyone inside”.

“Destroyed the entire building, killing and injuring everyone inside”, the ministry said.

Iranian state TV reported earlier that among those who were  killed in the Israeli airstrike included Brig-Gen Zahedi, who was identified as a senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ overseas operations arm.

It said the Quds Force and other  diplomats among them were also confirmed dead, the Iranian state TV .

The Iran’s foreign minister has told his Syrian counterpart that full responsibility for the attack on the consular building of Iranian embassy in Damascus falls on Israel, following the death of reza zahedi in Damascus.

Also speaking on the method the Israeli Defense Force had killed the leader of the iranian revolutionary guard corps, the Syrian defence ministry said Israeli aircraft targeted the consulate building from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights at about 17:00 local time today, Monday, 1 April, 2024.

The ministry explained that there was work in progress to recover the bodies and rescue the injured ones from underneath the rubble, but without giving any enough details about their identities.

A trust source, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, revealed that reza zahedi was actively “serving in the Quds Force” since 2008 to 2016, and headed a top position as the commander of the Revolutionary Guards in two countries, Syria and Lebanon before this time.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of sources on the ground in Syria, reported that eight people were killed – a high-ranking leader of the Quds Force, two Iranian advisers and five members of the Revolutionary Guards, BBC reported.
