BREAKING: Nigerian Army Commander, One Captain, Two Majors, 12 Soldiers Killed In Gun Battle On Peace Mission In Okuama Community, Delta State

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director, Defence Information, said in a statement on Saturday that one army Commander, Captain, two Majors and 12 soldiers were killed on Thursday in Bomadi Local government area of Delta State where they had visited for conflict settlement.

General Tukur Gusau also revealed in the issued statement, on his X social media handle, that the soldiers and the “were surrounded by some community youths” who attacked and “killed them on Thursday, 14 March, 2024,” in Okuama community, Bomadi Local Government Area.

“The troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State while on peace mission to Okuama community in Bomadi LGA of Delta State were surrounded by some community youths and killed on Thursday, 14 March, 2024,” he said.

“The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

“The reinforcement team led by the Commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 Soldiers.

“The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has directed the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the heinous crime. The occurrence has been reported to the Delta State Government.

“However, the military remains focused and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country. So far, a few arrests have been made while steps in place to unravel the motive behind the attack.”

However, The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Christopher Gwabin Musa, has issued an order to investigate the prime actors behind the bloody deaths of the Captain, two Majors, 12 soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Bomadi L.G.A and their commanding officer.
