Deporting 12,000 illegal migrants to Nigeria poses a security threat, Akpabio says to Germany— as many of them may have come from other African countries like Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.

This report has come early Thursday as the German embassador, Gunther sat over a long talk of her countries decision to deport 12,000 illegal migrants to Nigeria. Deporting 12,000 illegal migrants to Nigeria

In a concerned statement, the senate president, Godwill Akpabio who received the Germany embassador, Annett Gunther, said that such decision could be very bad given the state of Nigeria economy and social security.

The Senate president also noted that almost every black man in Germany will claim to be Nigerian over fear of economic or political crisis that might be going on their country, including those from neighbouring African countries like Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. Meanwhile, in her open address, the German embassador said that Nigeria has been Germany second largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, and there is the need for both countries to come together in the interest of their citizens.

Speaking in her own words, Gunther said,“We are honoured to be here today. Nigeria and Germany being the largest economies and population in their respective continents, need to come together in their peoples’ interests. Nigeria is Germany’s second largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa.

However, seeking to acquaint the ambassador of the implications of such planned mass deportation of 12000 illegal migrants people into, Akpabio pleaded that Nigeria should be given an opportunity to filter out who is and who is not a Nigerian among the immigrants before the deportation. He Also discussed the issue of insecurity in Nigeria,  highlighting that this may spur a surge in criminality in the country if Germany would go on to deport almost the entire 12000 people into Nigeria, all of which may not be Nigerians.

“We also have a problem of infiltration from other countries. We require assistance from Germany in the area of security because when we had the Boko Haram issues in the North East, it might not have escalated to the level it did if we had the support of major players like Germany and others,” he said.

“It was very difficult for us to get support from America at that time, maybe due to what they read on social media concerning us. If developed countries stop listening to social media, they would be willing to assist developing countries.

“The recent decision of Germany to deport illegal Nigerians back to the country numbering 12,000 is something you have to look into for us, because of its security implications. As a result of the current political situation in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, almost every black person in Germany would claim to be a Nigerian because they don’t want to return to crises prone countries. “Dumping 12,000 illegal immigrants in Nigeria would lead to the escalation of insecurity in the country. There is, therefore, the need for your country to allow our immigration officers to assess,  who exactly is a Nigerian amongst them. If they allow them in here, without any kith and kin and they have to survive, the result would be nothing but militancy or insecurity,” the senate president, senator Akpabio concluded.
