(EPICSTORIAN) – Essex Police have launched an investigation into a fatal Colchester car crash that killed four, urging witnesses to provide information.
The devastating accident claimed lives of four people after their vehicle collided with a building early Saturday morning
The collision occurred on Magdalen Street at approximately 4:40 a.m., prompting an immediate emergency response.
Authorities confirmed the fatalities at the scene and have since closed the road for much of the day to facilitate the recovery of the vehicle and further forensic analysis.
Essex Police Issued Statement and Public Appeal
In an official statement, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed condolences to the victims’ families and acknowledged the difficult nature of the incident.
“My thoughts, and those of everyone at Essex Police, are with the friends and families of the four people who died this morning,” Hooper stated.
He also praised the emergency responders for their professionalism and compassion in handling the tragic situation.
“I want to thank the businesses and residents in the Magdalen Street area for their support and understanding today in what has been a really difficult and tragic situation. I also want to pay tribute to emergency services personnel who have worked diligently, professionally, and compassionately to ensure the dignity of those who have died.”
The police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash and have called on witnesses to come forward.
“Our enquiries to establish what led up to the collision are ongoing, and I need anyone with information to contact us,” Hooper urged.
Road Closures
Authorities described the incident as a “serious collision” and maintained a strong presence in the area throughout the day. The road closure on Magdalen Street significantly disrupted local traffic, but police emphasized that it was necessary to preserve evidence and ensure a thorough investigation.
