Nigeria’s $134M AfDB-backed farming initiative empowers farmers, targets staple crops, and strengthens food security.

Abuja, (EPICSTORIAN) – The Federal Government of Nigeria has rolled out a National Dry Season Farming Initiative to boost agricultural production and enhance food security.

Supported by a $134 million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB), this investment, according to Federal Ministry of Agriculture, is designed to empower farmers, enhance agricultural output, and reduce dependence on food imports.

Minister Highlights Goals of National Dry Season Farming Initiative Targeting Key Staple Crops Nationwide

Launching the 2024/2025 National Dry Season Farming, Minister Abubakar Kyari revealed that the program targets staple crops like wheat, rice, maize, and cassava.

Over 300,000 farmers will benefit from subsidized inputs and access to quality seeds under the National Agricultural Growth Support Scheme-Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP) Project.

Highlighting Cross River State’s leadership in wheat production, Kyari praised the state’s commitment to agricultural excellence.

Governor Bassey Otu assured full support, emphasizing the importance of the initiative in bolstering food security.
