Fuel scarcity persists in Abuja as fuel stations adjust pump price
Nigeria, April 30, (Epicstorian News)- Petrol stations in Abuja and its other outlets have reportedly increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as fuel due to fuel scarcity.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, some of fuel stations which had products in stock were selling at the price of N850 and N1,000 per litre, while the black marketers sold at N1,300 and N1,400 per litre.
However, NAN reports that despite the unofficial price adjustment by these fuel stations, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) maintained its price of N617 ‘but had previously made an announcement related to its policy to create temporary fuel scarcity which triggered the price changes’.
Long queues of motorists and other fuel users, due to the fuel scarcity, were seen stretching out at Nigerian National Petroleum Commission fuel stations (NNPC Ltd), retail outlets at Zone 1, Mega station near Church Gate, Jahi and others along Kubwa express.
This development in Abuja, if we can recall, was technically caused by low distribution of fuel product to different stations due to logistics as was claimed by the agency responsible for fuel distribution.
Meanwhile, NNPC Ltd had issued a statement on Thursday addressing the cause of the fuel scarcity as it described as “tightness in fuel supply” and informed that the issue had been resolved.
However, along Karshi-Jukwoyi road, Fuel Smart, Mobil, NIPCO and many other independent marketers are selling the product in their fuelling stations between N850 and N1,000, reported Thenation.
While various fuel stations in the FCT reported that they did not have the product, a few others had but were battling with over demand and angry lined up fuel buyers.
Majority of the fuelling stations at Kubwa are closed as a result of the product’s stock-out.
Ammasco and Eterna in the same location, at Kubwa second gate, along the Kubwa-Zuba expressway, said they are yet to get a supply of the product.
But NAN reports that NIPCO fuelling station opposite the Eterna station is selling fuel but faced with long queue of buyers.
