Insecurity: We Need Assistance from Germany, Akpabio says during a diplomatic meeting in Abuja
The president of Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio has again entreated the German government to help salvage the insecurity challenges befalling Nigeria. Akpabio says during a diplomatic meeting in Asorok.
Akpabio made this statement in a recent meeting with Annett Gunther, the German ambassador who said she was “honoured to be “present” at the meeting, noting that “Nigeria and Germany” have “being the largest economies and population in their respective continents”. Meanwhile, sitting over a brief interaction with the ambassador, the senate president told Gunther that “Boko Haram issues would not have escalated if Germany” had supported the Nigerian government with all the necessary help it expected at the time as America turned its back on “our request”.
He also pointed out that Nigeria is presently faced with a problem of rising insecurity and illegal visitors or nationals invading into the country from the Neighbouring countries.
He said Nigeria will ”require assistance from Germany in the area of security” to tackle the daily reports of persistent “kidnapping, insecurity and all forms of social vices”. Akpabio says during a diplomatic meeting
“We also have a problem of infiltration from other countries. We require assistance from Germany in the area of security because when we had the Boko Haram issues in the North East, it might not have escalated to the level it did if we had the support of major players like Germany and others,” Akpabio said.
“It was very difficult for us to get support from America at that time, maybe due to what they read on social media concerning us. If developed countries stop listening to social media, they would be willing to assist developing countries.
Akpabio also made a reference to the government of Germany’s previous decision to deport 12,000 illegal Nigerian migrants, highlighting that such a move would worsen the case of social safety as “the result would be nothing but militancy and insecurity”. Akpabio says during a diplomatic meeting
“The recent decision of Germany to deport illegal Nigerians back to the country numbering 12,000 is something you have to look into for us, because of its security implications. As a result of the current political situation in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, almost every black person in Germany would claim to be a Nigerian because they don’t want to return to crisis prone countries.
“If they allow them in here, without any kith and kin and they have to survive, the result would be nothing but militancy or insecurity,” the senate president, senator Akpabio said.
He besieged the German government to allow Nigeria the ample time to carry assessment in order to determine Nigerians and non-Nigerians among the 12,000 illegal immigrants marked for deportation. Akpabio says during a diplomatic meeting
“Dumping 12,000 illegal immigrants in Nigeria would lead to the escalation of insecurity in the country. There is, therefore, the need for your country to allow our immigration officers to assess who exactly is a Nigerian amongst them,” he added. Akpabio says during a diplomatic meeting
