Iranian President Pezeshkian calls BRICS nations to unite against US dollar’s global dominance at Kazan summit.
TEHRAN, EPICSTORIAN – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the need for unity among BRICS nations to counterbalance the influence of the United States and the dominance of the US dollar on the global stage.
His remarks came during a press briefing at Mehrabad International Airport, prior to his departure for the BRICS Summit 2024 in Kazan, Russia, where he was invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking on the evolving role of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), Pezeshkian highlighted the bloc’s efforts to foster multilateralism.
BRICS Nations Discuss Strategies to End Western Unilateral power
According to him, as reported by Tehran Times, the BRICS alliance is increasingly focusing on forming cohesive strategies to mitigate the unilateral power that the US has exerted, particularly through the global financial system ‘dominated by the dollar’.
“The member states are working towards unity and cooperation to challenge the undisputed power that the United States and its currency have established both regionally and globally,” Pezeshkian remarked.
The Iranian president also outlined opportunities for collaboration within BRICS, citing sectors such as agriculture, energy, industry, and tourism as key areas for joint initiatives.
“We can expect productive agreements and expanded trade in these sectors, strengthening our economic partnerships,” he noted.
This year’s summit in Kazan marks Iran’s debut as a permanent member of BRICS, a development that Pezeshkian views as a significant milestone.
“This is my first official participation in the BRICS Summit, where Iran now plays a pivotal role. Many other nations are also seeking membership in this influential group,” he stated.
Pezeshkian underscored that the summit would offer a platform for leaders from BRICS nations, including Russia, China, and India, to articulate their visions for the future of the group.
“Every country will present its perspective on BRICS and how we can collaborate moving forward. I believe this dialogue will solidify our collective resistance against the US’s unilateralism,” he added.
