EPICSTORIAN — Turkey is mourning the loss of Istanbul traffic police officer Ogün Yürümez, who was killed early Tuesday morning while securing a crash site on Ekrem Kurt Boulevard in Istanbul.
The fatal accident, as was reported by the police, happened at approximately 6:20 a.m., as Yürümez and his team were handling an initial traffic incident involving a municipal vehicle and a private car on the D-100 southbound entrance.
According to authorities, while managing the scene, a city bus operated by the Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Company (IETT) lost control and struck Yürümez.
Emergency services, including police, fire, and medical teams, responded swiftly, but Yürümez was declared dead on the scene.
Investigators conducted a thorough examination, and Yürümez’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute morgue, the city’s news outlet said.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya offered condolences through social media, acknowledging the dedication Yürümez brought to his role in public safety.
“Police officer Ogün Yürümez, who served in the Istanbul Traffic Supervision Branch, was killed at the scene while responding to a traffic accident in Bakırköy after being struck by an IETT bus,” Yerlikaya stated.
“I wish Allah’s mercy upon him and express my condolences to his grieving family, our heroic police force, and our nation. May his rank be high.”
