Kalu dismisses 2027 presidential calls urges Nigerians to back Tinubu’s administration for continued economic reforms
Abuja, Nigeria, EPICSTORIAN — Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has turned down an invitation from the Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
The Abia North senator, who also chairs the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection, making it clear that a presidential run is not part of his plans.
The NYLF, a coalition of 40 political groups, recently met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where discussions focused on restructuring the presidential ticket.

Forum President Comrade Eliot Afiyo put forward Kalu and Labour Party’s Peter Obi as potential candidates, suggesting Governors Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State or Umar Fintiri of Adamawa State as running mates.
Kalu dismissed the proposal, reiterating his commitment to the current administration.
“The presidency in 2027 is not on my agenda. I have every right to choose my path, and I have chosen to stand firmly behind President Tinubu,” he said.
A statement from his media office, signed by George Maduka, stressed the importance of political stability and economic continuity.
The senator praised Tinubu’s economic policies, describing them as bold steps toward reshaping Nigeria’s financial structure.
“Since the return of independence, no leader has shown the boldness to overhaul our economic framework as Tinubu has. For the sake of our nation’s prosperity, we must let him complete the transformative work he has begun,” the statement read.
Kalu also urged politicians to focus on their campaigns instead of drawing him into political conflicts.
His endorsement of Tinubu reflects a strategic alignment with the administration’s policies, signaling an intent to keep governance on its current trajectory.
