Abuja (EPICSTORIAN) –The Nigerian government has secured a $134M AfDB loan to boost seed production, support farmers, and strengthen food security nationwide.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, announced this during the launch of the 2024/2025 National Dry Season Farming in Calabar.

Senator Kyari stated that the initiative, under the National Agricultural Growth Support Scheme-Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP) Project, aims to ensure year-round farming and address the nation’s food security challenges.

$134M AfDB Loan to Support 250,000 Wheat Farmers and Boost National Food Production

The funds, as reported by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation,will support 250,000 wheat farmers with subsidized inputs to cultivate 250,000 hectares, expecting an output of 750,000 metric tons of wheat. Additionally, 150,000 rice farmers nationwide will receive similar support.

Recognizing Cross River State’s contributions to wheat production, Kyari emphasized the federal government’s commitment to partnering with the state.

Governor Bassey Otu reaffirmed the state’s dedication to agricultural growth, describing it as a step towards ensuring food availability.
