(EPICSTORIAN) – A tragic hit-and-run in Pitsea has claimed the lives of two children, prompting Essex Police to launch an urgent investigation.
Police confirmed the arrest of two suspects—a man and a woman—on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene.

The collision occurred at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, in Walthams Place, where a young girl and boy were struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but despite their efforts, both children succumbed to their injuries.
Essex Police acted quickly, detaining the two suspects who remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police Statement and Appeal for Witnesses
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed condolences to the victims’ families, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
“My thoughts are with the friends and family of the girl and boy who have died this evening,” Hooper stated.
He confirmed that specialist officers are providing support to the grieving families during what he described as an “unimaginably difficult time.”
The senior officer urged the public to assist in the investigation by sharing any available footage or information.
