(EPICSTORIAN) — Police in Texas are investigating the death of British tourist Lucy Harrison, who was fatally shot while visiting her father in Prosper, a suburb of Dallas.

Case of British Woman Classified criminally negligent homicide
A report from the Prosper Police Department, though redacted, classifies the case as “criminally negligent homicide.” Law enforcement officials confirmed that a suspect has been identified, along with five witnesses.
The case has now been handed over to the Collin County District Attorney’s office for review.
Under Texas law, criminally negligent homicide occurs when an individual causes another person’s death through reckless or careless actions. The charge, a state jail felony, carries a potential sentence ranging from 180 days to two years behind bars, along with fines up to $10,000.
Legal proceedings surrounding the case have begun in the United Kingdom. An inquest into Harrison’s death was opened at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington and will resume on March 28. Following the hearing, her family issued a statement through Cheshire Police, remembering her as someone who lived life with passion and courage.
“Lucy lived fiercely and fearlessly,” the statement read. “She embraced adventure, loved exploring new places and cultures, yet also found joy in quiet moments at home.”
The family expressed their devastation, describing her as someone who was “truly thriving in life.” They added, “Although this gives us great comfort, we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful, gorgeous Luce.”
