Suspects Caught on Arrival from Brazil

Officers flagged the two individuals based on intelligence gathered from ongoing drug enforcement efforts. Both arrived on separate flights, possibly in an effort to avoid detection.

Searches revealed that the female suspect carried R2.5 million worth of cocaine, while the male suspect had R5 million worth concealed in his luggage.

Tambo Cocaine Seizure Adds to Growing List of Drug Busts

Security teams at OR Tambo International Airport have increased surveillance in response to rising cases of drug trafficking through major transit points.

Smugglers are resorting to different tactics, including recruiting couriers who may not fit traditional profiles.

Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk confirmed the arrests and emphasized the continued focus on dismantling drug networks. “These arrests demonstrate our commitment to disrupting trafficking operations,” van Wyk stated.

Surveillance and Intelligence Leading to More Arrests

Enhanced security screenings and intelligence sharing between law enforcement agencies have resulted in multiple arrests in recent months.

Officers remain on high alert, particularly for flights arriving from known drug trafficking routes.

Investigators are now working to establish any links between the arrested individuals and larger smuggling networks operating across borders.

Both suspects will appear in court, where they face charges under South Africa’s drug trafficking laws. Convictions could lead to lengthy prison sentences.
