Lagos, Nigeria (EPICSTORIAN) — Rema has claimed the YouTube crown as the most streamed Nigerian artist in 2025, outpacing music heavyweights including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, and Ayra Starr.
This milestone confirms his growing dominance in the Afrobeats space and reaffirms his global appeal.
The achievement is backed by verified data from music analytics platforms, which placed Rema at the top of Nigeria’s YouTube streaming chart for the first quarter of the year.
Rema Outpaces Other Nigerian Artists By Views YouTube
His standout track Calm Down led the surge in views, crossing 1 billion streams—an unprecedented mark for a Nigerian artist on the platform.
“This is history, and I’m just getting started,” Rema shared in a celebratory post.
Calm Down Becomes Billion-View Benchmark
Released as part of his debut album Rave & Roses, Calm Down quickly became a streaming powerhouse.
The remix featuring Selena Gomez pushed the song into global playlists, contributing to its exponential growth. Crossing the billion-view threshold has now placed Rema in a league of his own.
Streaming trends show that Calm Down accounted for the majority of his views, playing a major role in helping him secure this year’s YouTube crown.
Its popularity spans across the Americas, Europe, and parts of Asia, where Afrobeats continues to see sharp growth.
Second Hit Single Secures Top Two Slot
In addition to Calm Down, Rema’s follow-up single Baby (Is It A Crime) also saw rapid momentum. The track currently holds the second spot among the most-streamed Nigerian songs on YouTube this year, clocking over 14 million views. Its viral nature across short-form video platforms contributed to its strong streaming footprint.
YouTube’s Q1 chart ranks the top five Nigerian artists based on aggregate streaming data. Rema leads, followed by Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, and Wizkid.
Rapid Rise from Dumebi to Dominance
Since entering the mainstream in 2019 with his debut Dumebi, Rema has built an extensive catalogue of successful singles.
Tracks like Iron Man, Ginger Me, Bounce, and Soundgasm widened his appeal, earning him awards and nominations across Africa, Europe, and North America.
He received the Headies Next Rated award in 2019, followed by wins and nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards and BET Awards. His early achievements, paired with consistent performance, have fueled comparisons to Afrobeats legends.
“I rank among Afrobeats’ greatest, and the numbers speak for themselves,” Rema said in response to growing online debates about his influence.
New Single ‘Bout U’ Set to Drop
Rema’s next release, Bout U, is scheduled to drop on Friday, April 11, 2025. Early snippets from the track have surfaced online and generated conversation across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and X.
The upcoming single is expected to continue Rema’s streak of viral hits, keeping him on track to maintain his lead on digital platforms throughout the year.
