Kyiv, Ukraine (EPICSTORIAN) – A massive overnight Russian drone attack injured at least eight civilians and damaged critical infrastructure across Ukraine, including power facilities and residential buildings. Ukraine’s Air Force reported intercepting 65 of the 100 long-range Shahed drones launched by Moscow.
The assault, which began at 8:00 PM on January 27, targeted 13 regions, continuing Russia’s sustained campaign against Ukraine’s energy grid. Since October 2022, Moscow has employed missile and drone strikes to disrupt essential services, particularly during winter.
Russia’s Drone Strike Caused Widespread Damage Across Multiple Regions
Ukrainian air defenses, including aviation, missile units, electronic warfare teams, and mobile fire groups, engaged the aerial threats, downing drones over Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Kherson oblasts.
Odesa Oblast: Four people sustained injuries, including a 91-year-old man who was hospitalized. Residential buildings were damaged, and four cars caught fire.
Kyiv Oblast: Debris from a downed drone damaged a vintage car museum, destroying nine vehicles and damaging 27 others.
Kharkiv: Emergency services battled a fire covering 1,500 square meters at an industrial site. A 59-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl suffered acute stress reactions. A separate strike in the suburbs ignited a house and garage.
Rohatyn, Kharkiv Oblast: A 62-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man were hospitalized, while multiple homes sustained damage.
Uman, Cherkasy Oblast: An infrastructure facility was struck, disrupting power, water, and heating services, with local utilities relying on generators.
Chernihiv: Unmanned Aerial Vehicle debris partially destroyed two detached homes, though no injuries were reported.
Russia’s Persistent Air Attacks
Ukraine’s military confirmed that 28 Russian drones lost tracking, with two straying into Russia and Belarus. Combat operations were ongoing at the time of reporting, with at least four explosive drones believed to have hit their targets.
Emergency teams were deployed across affected regions to mitigate the aftermath of the strikes.
