Breakthrough in Eighteen Lusikisiki Victims Case: Firearms Recovered, Suspects Arrested

LUSIKISIKI – South African Police Service (SAPS) has made progress in its investigation into the  Lusikisiki mass killings, where 18 people were brutally murdered.

Following a coordinated intelligence operation, SAPS recovered several “high-calibre firearms” suspected to have been used in Lusikisiki mass killings, one of the deadly crime in the country’s history.

The recovery was made on the evening of October 17, 2024, which marked a critical step taken by the police in the Lusikisiki public shootings case.

Key Progress in Investigation of Lusikisiki Mass Killings: Two Suspects Arrested

According to SAPS officials, initial investigations suggest the firearms were moved to a different location after the massacre.

SAPS said two suspects were apprehended in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape, for possessing these firearms.

The weapons have since been sent for ballistics testing, where experts will determine whether they were used in the killings and if they are connected to other criminal incidents, the officials revealed.

This crucial phase of the investigation will potentially provide key links to other crimes and suspects.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu expressed his satisfaction with the investigative team’s efforts.

“The recovery of these firearms brings us closer to delivering justice for the victims of this heinous crime,” Senzo Mchunu said.

Deputy Police Ministers Polly Boshielo and Cassel Mathale, along with SAPS National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, echoed this sentiment and lauded the diligent work of the officers involved.

The police speedy investigative efforts so far will in no doubt offer  grieving families of the victims of Lusikisiki shootings hope for justice.

As the investigation remains ongoing, the South African law enforcement pushes to uncover the full truth behind the incident.

SAPS assured that all involved in the deadly perpetration of the Lusikisiki mass killings would be held accountable.
