
EPICSTORIAN — A security guard lost his life after a violent altercation at a restaurant in Rumukrushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on March 27, 2025.
Ifeanyi Ani, a father of three from Enugu State, was fatally attacked by a customer.
Security Guard Dispute Over Headlights Turns Deadly
Eyewitnesses said the security guard approached a customer’s parked vehicle and requested that the headlights be turned off . The request led to an argument that quickly escalated into violence, a source reported.
“The man suddenly started punching him. He just kept hitting him until Ani collapsed,” an eyewitness recounted.
Efforts to revive the security guard failed. By the time help arrived, he had succumbed to his injuries.
Customer in Police Custody
Restaurant staff intervened and prevented the customer from leaving. He was later handed over to officers at the Mini-Okoro Police Division.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation was underway.
Family’s Appeal and Human Rights Group’s Reaction
Human rights advocate Prince Wiro revealed that the security guard’s sister initially sought assistance from his organization but later requested no further action.
“We were contacted about the case, but the family later asked us to step aside,” Wiro said.

The attack has raised concerns about the risks security guards face in high-tension environments.
