(EPICSTORIAN) — A Tennessee man who described himself as a “serial killer” and compared his actions to the fictional murderer Michael Myers will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
A judge handed Joshua Dotson, 24, a 261-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to three first-degree murders committed in 2019 and 2020.
This latest sentencing adds 159 years to the 102-year term he was already serving for killing his ex-girlfriend, Jamesha Covson, and her unborn child, Skynews reported.
Murders and Sentencing
Dotson’s violent history includes the murder of 19-year-old Covson, who was several months pregnant when she was shot inside her home in June 2020. Prosecutors said Dotson fired through her apartment door before forcing his way inside. Witnesses reported that after leaving the scene, he returned moments later and shot her multiple times.
The case reached a conclusion on Tuesday, when Shelby County prosecutors confirmed Dotson’s latest conviction and sentencing. Assistant District Attorney Regina Lucreziano addressed the outcome in court.
“After five years, we are pleased to finally have justice for Dotson’s multiple victims,” Lucreziano said.
“His sentences, both from the guilty verdict after trial and these two pleas today, amount to 261 years in prison. No amount of time will bring the victims back, but we are satisfied that he will never pose a threat to our community again.”
‘Serial Killer’s’ Court Statements
During his trial for Covson’s murder, Dotson took the stand in his own defense. He called himself a “serial killer” and compared his crimes to those of Michael Myers from the Halloween horror films. His statements in court appeared be the calculated nature of his actions.
Investigators described a pattern of returning to crime scenes to ensure his victims did not survive. The additional murder convictions solidified his life sentence, eliminating any chance of parole.
Shelby County prosecutors emphasized that Dotson’s sentencing reflects the severity of his crimes.
Law enforcement officials noted that the victims’ families would never get their loved ones back, but his imprisonment guarantees he will never harm anyone again.
Court records detail a violent history that left lasting scars on those affected. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by repeat violent offenders and the importance of holding them accountable.
