The Kuwait Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has died today at the age of 86 after a brief illness. This was reported in an official statement by the Kuwaiti national television broadcast.

The Emir was born in the city of Kuwait on June 25, in 1937, as the sixth son of his father Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. Sheikh, his father, had ruled the country for 29 years, from 1921 and 1950 before his death.

Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah became part of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense in 1988 and had led it during the invasion of raq, which began on march 20, 2003 and was ended with the launch of the American military intervention.

He became the crowned prince in February 20, 2006, and subsequently began to reign in power as the Emir of the state of Kuwait from from September, 2020 until his death.

Kuwait economy, due to its huge dependency on oil exportation, had suffered the worst impact of Coronavirus pandemic crisis in 2019-2020.

Sheikh Nawaf, having come into power at such time when the country struggled to maintain government’s budgeted expenditures and smooth running of its administrative functions, was faced with e lot of challenges during his first to second year of reign of power.

On 29 November, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the Minister of Diwan Affairs, revealed that Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was hospitalised due to an emergency health problem.

But then, today he was reported dead and taken to his last place of repose, according to the Muslim doctrine.

However, while Kuwaiti people mourn his departure for 3 days, the second crown prince, who is his half-brother, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, 83, will reign as the new Emir of the state in his stead.

The Emir succeeded by 5 children, 4 sons and a daughter. The first and second son being Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf and Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawaf, and the third and last son Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nawaf, Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf and the only daughter being Sheikha Sheikha Al-Nawaf.
