(EPICSTORIAN) – A series of violent knife attacks in Dublin’s Stoneybatter district left three men hospitalized, prompting heightened security measures.

The stabbings occurred around 3 PM on Sunday across multiple streets in the Arbour Hill area.

Irish police, An Garda Síochána, confirmed the suspect—a man in his late 20s—was arrested and is currently in custody at a north Dublin police station.

Authorities believe the attacker acted alone, with a spokesperson stating, “There is no ongoing threat to the public, but increased patrols will remain in place to reassure residents.”

Victims Sustain Serious Injuries

Three men, ranging in age from their mid-20s to mid-40s, were assaulted during the attack and taken to hospital. Two suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the third sustained less severe wounds.

“All three remain under medical care at this time,” the police spokesperson added.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Gardaí lifted traffic restrictions by 5 PM but continue investigating the crime scene. Officers have urged the public to provide witness accounts and video footage that may aid the investigation.

Local Fine Gael councillor Ray McAdam described the response, noting, “Residents were told to lock their doors. Gardaí swarmed the place immediately, ensuring public safety.”

He added, “There’s shock and concern, but the main hope is that those injured recover quickly.”

Irish Leaders Condemn Attack

Taoiseach Micheál Martin expressed support for the victims, stating, “Our thoughts are with those affected by this shocking attack.” He praised the swift response of Gardaí and emergency services, urging anyone with information to come forward.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan called it a “random and awful attack,” confirming he was receiving regular updates from police.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald described the incident as “terrible news,” adding, “The community is in a state of shock, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

Security Heightened in Stoneybatter

Authorities have assured the public that increased patrols and visible policing will remain in place to prevent further violence. Investigators continue working to determine the motive behind the attack.
