Taofiq Adebayo, the director of public affairs and enlightenment, Lagos State traffic management authority, LASTMA, said this strategic effort was pioneered by the traffic authority’s general manager, Bakare-Oki Olalekan to decongest the roads and facilitate hassle-free movement of vehicles going in and out of the Apapa Port.

During the exercise, the traffic authority seized and towed 78 loaded container trucks parked within the State law-forbidden zone along Ijora Bridge.

With the enforcement carried out at 7am Sunday morning, the director said that this operation and seizure of offenders’ vehicles, as part of the LASTMA strict rules against all forms of illegal parking, will continue to ensure that they ease traffic congestion and encourage free movement of vehicles within the area.

Speaking on the traffic authority’s enforcement rules, the contents of the report, on Sunday morning, read, “Apapa/Ijora Gridlock: LASG Clears Another Illegally Parked Containerised Trucks Off Bridges At Apapa- Ijora Axis Of Lagos.”

The authority, also during the exercise, advised Lagos State road users to inform LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck through one of the Agency’s hotlines 08129928593, 08100565860, 08129928515 for quick response.

The issued statement also revealed the involvement of other “relevant security agencies” in achieving the traffic plan of LASTMA designated by the active general manager ,Bakare-Oki Olalekan.

 “LASTMA during an early Sunday morning enforcement operation led by the General Manager, Bakare Oki Olalekan, in conjunction with relevant security agencies to ensure smooth and seamless traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond, impounded another 78 illegally parked containerised trucks on top High Bridge by Lilly Pond inward Apapa and Sifax axis of Ijora (Olopa),” the statement read further.
