A Russian military training base deep in occupied southern Ukraine was destroyed in a Ukrainian precision strike, leaving 30 Russian soldiers dead.
The operation, carried out by Ukraine’s 14th Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Regiment and the Tavria Operational Strategic Grouping, came three days after a deadly Russian missile strike on a Ukrainian training facility.
The Ukrainian military confirmed that reconnaissance drones identified the Russian base before launching precision-guided rockets, likely from a High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
The attack followed a pattern of similar strikes targeting Russian military installations over the past year.
Ukrainian Troops Respond to Deadly Russian Missile Strike
A Russian Iskander missile had struck a Ukrainian training camp in Cherkas’ke, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, just days earlier, killing 32 Ukrainian soldiers and injuring over 100.
The attack was guided by a Russian surveillance drone that located the poorly defended facility. Troops were exposed due to a lack of camouflage, earthworks, or air defense systems.
A soldier familiar with the base described command decisions as negligent, allowing Russian forces to carry out the strike with minimal resistance.
The Ukrainian response targeted a Russian military training ground, likely in Kherson or Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Precision Strike Hits Russian Military Training Position
A Ukrainian reconnaissance drone from the 14th UAS Regiment tracked Russian troops at the training site before directing the strike.
A HIMARS launcher fired precision-guided munitions, releasing submunitions that killed 30 Russian soldiers on impact.
This marked the ninth Ukrainian strike on Russian training facilities in 14 months. A similar operation took place in November 2024 when a Ukrainian drone observed Russian soldiers disembarking from civilian vehicles in Zaporizhzhia. A single HIMARS rocket landed nearby, leaving multiple casualties.
Ukrainian Forces Target Russian Training Operations
Ukrainian artillery has repeatedly disrupted Russian troop training efforts, particularly in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk Oblasts.
Since early 2024, drone-guided strikes have inflicted significant losses on Russian forces before they could deploy to front-line positions. Hundreds of Russian trainees have been killed in similar operations.
Russia has launched fewer attacks on Ukrainian training bases, with lower casualty figures reported. The latest exchange underscores Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian-controlled territory.
Ammunition Supplies
The Trump administration recently halted additional U.S. military aid to Ukraine, raising concerns over the availability of long-range munitions.
Without new supplies, Ukrainian HIMARS launchers may run low on rockets in the coming months. Kyiv is seeking alternative sources of compatible ammunition from allied nations.
HIMARS remains a key weapon in Ukraine’s efforts to target Russian military infrastructure. Its ability to strike deep behind enemy lines has shaped the battlefield, but sustained operations depend on continued international support.
Ukrainian and Russian forces continue to trade high-impact strikes. Russian troops have been repeatedly exposed to Ukrainian attacks while gathering in training areas near the front lines.
The latest strike adds to a growing list of precision attacks that have weakened Russian troop formations before deployment.
Military analysts are monitoring the situation as Ukraine presses forward with targeted operations.

Strategic strikes remain a critical factor in disrupting Russian logistics, though future capabilities will depend on securing additional weaponry and ammunition from Western partners.
